Background Remover

Make a background color transparent with click-to-sample and a tolerance slider, then download a PNG. Color-based removal that runs entirely in your browser.

Color-based, not AI. This tool makes pixels transparent when they are close to the background color you pick, controlled by the tolerance. It works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds, not busy photos. Your image stays on your device: it is decoded and edited entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded or logged.

About the Background Remover

The Background Remover makes a chosen background color transparent so you can drop a subject onto any layout, product mockup, or design. Pick the background by clicking the image to sample its color or by entering a hex value, set a tolerance, and download a transparent PNG. This is color-based removal: it works by matching pixels close to the color you pick, so it is best for solid or near-solid backgrounds, not busy photos. Everything runs in your browser with the Canvas API, so your image is never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Upload an image by dropping it in or clicking to browse (PNG, JPG, or WebP).
  2. Set the background color: click anywhere on the image to sample that pixel, or use the color input to enter a value.
  3. Drag the tolerance slider to control how close a pixel must be to the chosen color to be made transparent.
  4. Check the before and after preview on the checkerboard, then click Download PNG.

Features

  • Sample the background color by clicking directly on the image.
  • Manual hex color input for exact control.
  • Adjustable tolerance so you can include shades and edges or keep the match tight.
  • Side-by-side before and after preview on a transparency checkerboard.
  • One-click download as a transparent PNG, processed entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI background removal?

No. It is color-based removal. It makes pixels transparent when they are close to the background color you pick, controlled by a tolerance value. It works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds. For busy or photographic backgrounds, a dedicated AI subject-detection tool will do better.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded and edited entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to a server or logged.

Why are parts of my subject disappearing?

The subject contains colors close to the background color, or the tolerance is too high. Lower the tolerance until only the background is removed. If the subject and background share a color, color-based removal cannot separate them cleanly.

Why are there leftover edges around my subject?

Anti-aliased edges blend the subject color with the background color, so those pixels are not an exact match. Raise the tolerance to catch more of the fringe, or sample a few edge pixels to find a middle value.

What format is the download?

A PNG, which supports transparency. The removed background becomes fully transparent so you can place the result over any color or image.
